DESCRIPTION RATINGS & REVIEWS PRESCRIPTION GUIDE

The Nike 8138 Eyeglasses feature a semi-rimless metal frame built for active use. The stainless steel top rim and open bottom edge reduce frame weight and open up your field of vision. The semi-rimless construction keeps the profile minimal.

Built for Active Lifestyles

If you need glasses that stay put during movement, the Nike 8138 delivers. The frame geometry and adjustable silicone nose pads create a secure, customized fit. Measuring 56mm (lens width), 16mm (bridge), and 140mm (temple length), these frames suit medium to large faces. The temples are designed with grip in mind—no headband or strap required, even during workouts, yard work, or active days.

Available in four color options: Satin Black/Racer Blue, Satin Navy/Wolf Grey, Brushed Gunmetal/Black, and Satin Black/Cargo Khaki. Each pairs a matte or satin metal front with contrasting temple colors. The subtle Nike swoosh sits on the temple.

Prescription-Ready Performance

The Nike 8138 accepts most prescription lenses, including single vision, progressive (no-line bifocals), and standard bifocals. The semi-rimless construction makes lens installation straightforward, and the metal frame can be adjusted by an optician for a precise fit. Whether you're updating an old prescription or ordering your first pair of performance eyewear, these frames are ready.

The rectangle shape works well for round or oval face shapes, adding definition without overwhelming your features. At 32mm tall, the lenses provide enough vertical coverage for progressive prescriptions while keeping the overall look streamlined.

Price is great for this frame.

I bought these frames from my optometrist because there wasn't much of a savings bringing in my own Nike 8138 frames when they first came out. Now there's $200 difference between buying from DesignerOptics and the optometrist. I'm buying my third pair of Nike 8138 frames due to the temple tips breaking off. The frame size and fit is the best I've found for a pair of glasses while active. These hug my head in a way that I don't have to wear straps etc to keep them in place while doing activities. BUT, after awhile the sweat causes the tips to fall off and eventually the whole tip breaks off. I bought this pair to use the temples and extend the life of this pair of glasses.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the Nike 8138 eyeglasses suitable for progressive lenses?

Yes, the Nike 8138 frames are compatible with progressive (no-line bifocal) lenses. With a lens height of 32mm, they provide sufficient vertical space for the progressive corridor. The semi-rimless design also works well with multifocal lenses since the open bottom edge doesn't interfere with the near-vision zone.

What is the frame size of the Nike 8138?

The Nike 8138 measures 56mm lens width, 16mm bridge width, and 140mm temple length (56-16-140). This is considered a large size that fits medium to large faces comfortably. The lens height is 32mm, providing good coverage for both single vision and progressive prescriptions.

Do these glasses stay secure during physical activity?

Yes, the Nike 8138 is designed with an active lifestyle in mind. The frame features adjustable silicone nose pads for a customized grip, and the temple design creates a secure fit that stays in place during movement. Customer reviews specifically mention the frames 'hug the head' well enough that straps aren't needed during activities.

What material are the Nike 8138 frames made from?

The Nike 8138 features a stainless steel metal frame construction. The semi-rimless design uses metal for the top rim and bridge, while the temples are also metal with rubberized tips for comfort and grip. This combination provides durability while keeping the overall weight light.

Can I get prescription lenses in the Nike 8138 frames?

Absolutely. The Nike 8138 is prescription-ready and accommodates most prescription types, including single vision, bifocal, and progressive lenses. The metal frame can be easily adjusted by an optician to ensure your prescription lenses are properly aligned with your pupils for optimal vision correction.

What face shapes work best with the Nike 8138?

The Nike 8138's rectangle frame shape works particularly well for round and oval face shapes, as the angular lines help add definition and balance softer facial features. The semi-rimless design is also versatile enough to complement square and heart-shaped faces without overwhelming them.

Nike 8138 vs Nike 8130: Semi-Rimless or Full-Rim?

Both the Nike 8138 and Nike 8130 are metal performance eyeglass frames designed for active lifestyles, but they take different approaches to frame construction. The 8138 uses a semi-rimless design with a metal top rim and open bottom edge, while the 8130 is a full-rim frame that encircles the entire lens.

The semi-rimless 8138 offers a lighter feel and more open field of vision—there's no frame material below your sight line. This makes it ideal if you want minimal visual obstruction and a more modern, streamlined look. The 8130's full-rim construction provides more frame coverage and protection for the lenses, plus it can handle higher prescriptions more easily. The 8130 also features plant-based resin temples, an eco-conscious touch.

Both frames include adjustable rubber nose pads and temple tips for secure, comfortable wear during activity. The 8138 is the better choice if you prioritize lighter weight and an unobstructed view, while the 8130 suits those who prefer the durability and classic look of a full-rim frame.

Nike 8138 vs Nike 8141: Comparing Rectangle Options

The Nike 8141 is another rectangle-shaped metal frame in Nike's performance eyewear lineup, offering a different aesthetic within the same athletic design philosophy. While both frames share Nike's focus on lightweight metal construction and active-lifestyle features, the 8138's semi-rimless design sets it apart with a more contemporary, minimalist appearance.

If you're drawn to the semi-rimless look and want the lightest possible frame, the Nike 8138 is your pick. The open bottom edge reduces weight and creates a less obtrusive wearing experience. The 8141 may appeal if you prefer a different temple design or specific colorway options not available in the 8138.
