DESCRIPTION RATINGS & REVIEWS PRESCRIPTION GUIDE

The Carrera 1001 Sunglasses blend iconic aviator style with contemporary square proportions in a bold navigator silhouette that's been a brand best-seller for years. Crafted from lightweight, durable acetate with injection-molded construction, these prescription-ready sunglasses feature a striking two-tone design with vibrant red and black colorways that showcase Carrera's signature racing heritage.

The oversized 62mm full-rim rectangular frames deliver maximum coverage and UV protection, while gradient lenses transition from dark to light for optimal visibility when driving or outdoors. Carrera's iconic front-center 'C' monogram and signature stripe detailing along the top bar ensure instant brand recognition, with logo-stamped temples completing the athletic-inspired aesthetic. These unisex sunglasses work beautifully for both men and women seeking a comfortable, sporty frame with casual elegance.

Available in multiple colorways including polarized options, the Carrera 1001 combines retro-inspired design with modern functionality. The single-bridge construction and flexible fit make these frames ideal for active lifestyles, while the prescription-ready design means you never have to choose between style and clear vision.

Prescription Gradient Lenses not as dark as factory gradient

I love the look of the Carrera glasses, but the gradient prescription lenses from designer optics are not as dark as the factory lenses. The OEM lenses were included in the package and there is a noticeable difference in tint.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Carrera 1001 sunglasses be fitted with prescription lenses?

Yes, the Carrera 1001 sunglasses are fully prescription-ready and can accommodate most prescription lenses. These frames are designed to accept single vision, progressive, and other prescription lens types. At Designer Optics, our experienced opticians can help you customize these sunglasses with your exact prescription, including options for polarized prescription lenses, anti-reflective coatings, and various lens materials.

What face shapes work best with Carrera 1001 sunglasses?

The Carrera 1001's oversized rectangular navigator shape works exceptionally well for round and oval face shapes, as the angular lines help add definition and balance. The bold proportions also suit heart-shaped faces by adding structure to the lower face. The 62mm lens width makes these frames ideal for medium to large faces, providing generous coverage and a contemporary oversized look.

What are the frame dimensions of the Carrera 1001?

The Carrera 1001 sunglasses measure 62mm lens width, 11mm bridge width, and 140mm temple length (62-11-140). This oversized fit provides excellent coverage and is designed for medium to large face sizes. The full-rim construction and single bridge design ensure durability while maintaining a lightweight, comfortable feel for all-day wear.

Are Carrera 1001 sunglasses durable for everyday wear?

Yes, the Carrera 1001 is built for durability with injection-molded acetate and polyamide construction that resists bending, breaking, and fading. Carrera's frames are known for their robust construction and high-quality materials that withstand daily wear. The lightweight yet strong design makes them ideal for active lifestyles, sports, and outdoor activities while maintaining their shape and finish over time.

Do Carrera 1001 sunglasses provide UV protection?

Yes, all Carrera 1001 sunglasses come with 100% UV protection, blocking harmful UVA and UVB rays up to 400 nanometers. The gradient lenses are dark on top for maximum sun protection and lighter on the bottom for easier viewing of dashboards and instruments while driving. Polarized lens options are also available for enhanced glare reduction and visual clarity in bright conditions.

What makes the Carrera 1001 a best-seller?

The Carrera 1001 has been one of the brand's all-time best-sellers since its introduction in the Spring/Summer 2018 collection. Customers love its iconic oversized square-aviator hybrid design, comfortable lightweight construction, and bold colorways with signature Carrera stripe detailing. The versatile unisex styling, prescription-ready capability, and athleisure appeal make it a go-to choice for fashion-conscious wearers seeking both style and functionality.

Carrera 1001 vs. Similar Navigator & Aviator Sunglasses

Shopping for Carrera's iconic navigator sunglasses? The Carrera 1001 sits at the intersection of bold athletic style and everyday wearability, but how does it compare to similar models in the collection?

Carrera 1001 vs. Carrera 1007: The Double-Bridge Decision

The Carrera 1007 is the 1001's closest sibling, sharing nearly identical dimensions (62mm lens width) and the same oversized square-aviator silhouette. The key difference? The 1007 features a distinctive double bridge with a prominent front-center 'C' monogram, giving it a more refined, architectural look. Its metal-and-plastic hybrid construction elevates the aesthetic, making it ideal for dressier occasions.

The Carrera 1001, by contrast, embraces a sportier, more casual vibe with its single-bridge injection-molded acetate construction and vibrant two-tone colorways. It's lighter, more impact-resistant, and better suited for active lifestyles. If you want maximum brand presence and a sophisticated edge, choose the 1007. If you prioritize bold color, lightweight comfort, and athletic style, the 1001 is your frame. Price-wise, the 1001 offers better value at $55-$88 versus the 1007's $91-$121 range.

Carrera 1001 vs. Carrera 1005: Size Matters

The Carrera 1005 takes the navigator concept even bigger, with a 66mm lens width that provides maximum coverage for larger faces. While both models are prescription-ready and offer similar styling cues, the 1005's metal frame construction gives it a more classic aviator feel—think traditional pilot sunglasses with a modern twist.

Choose the 1005 if you have a larger face and prefer the weight and premium feel of metal frames. Stick with the 1001 if you want a more contemporary, athletic-inspired design in a medium-to-large fit that won't overwhelm your features. The 1001's acetate construction also makes it more durable for sports and outdoor activities.

Carrera 1001 vs. Carrera Champion: Heritage vs. Modern

The Carrera Champion is the brand's most iconic model—a true heritage aviator with a classic teardrop shape that's been a favorite for decades. If you're drawn to timeless, universally flattering aviator styling, the Champion delivers in spades.

But the Carrera 1001 is for those who want to make a bolder statement. Its oversized rectangular-navigator hybrid shape, vibrant colorways, and athleisure appeal give it a contemporary edge the Champion doesn't have. The 1001 also provides more coverage and a more modern, fashion-forward look. Both are priced similarly ($55-$88 for the 1001, $71-$77 for the Champion), so your choice comes down to style preference: classic aviator elegance or bold, sporty confidence.

Why Choose the Carrera 1001?

The Carrera 1001 stands out for its unique blend of oversized coverage, lightweight acetate construction, and bold two-tone colorways that few other models in the Carrera lineup can match. It's one of the brand's all-time best-sellers for good reason: it delivers iconic Carrera design with a contemporary, athletic twist that works for both casual and active lifestyles. Plus, at $55-$88, it offers exceptional value for a prescription-ready, UV-protective frame with this level of style and durability.
